What to Know
Megyn Kelly is suggesting that the Today show might’ve played a role in the kidnapping of Savannah Guthrie’s 84-year-old mom, Nancy Guthrie. Nancy was last seen on January 31, 2026 and remains missing. In a recent update, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos said investigators believe Nancy was “targeted.”
On her March 11 SiriusXM show, Megyn said the person who kidnapped Nancy might’ve gotten information about her from the Today show because its hosts are pushed to “overshare.” She shared a disturbing example of this: old footage of Nancy’s home.
Megyn unearthed footage from 2013.

At the start of her YouTube video, Megyn explained that her team found a 2013 episode of the Today show in which Nancy’s bedroom was shown on screen for all viewers to see. The footage is extremely “eerie” now, and Megyn used it to emphasize how “dangerous” it can be to share information about your personal life on TV.
During that old Today show segment, Savannah interviewed her mom about how to make a bed. Her mom was at her own home during the interview, so viewers could see inside her bedroom. After sharing the clip on her show, Megyn said, “So what’s interesting about that clip is you can see where she slept every night, and you can see exactly what this abductor must have walked into.”
She added, “You can see right into her bedroom, and generally, the way it was and the way it was set up, and she lives in the same house.” Megyn was just speculating, but she wondered if an abductor got information about Nancy and her home from seeing that footage.
She said people “have to be really careful” about what personal information they share publicly.
At the same time, she acknowledged that no one anticipated something like this happening. Of course, a lot of people tend to be careful about what they share about their kids online (or on TV). However, previously, people didn’t really worry so much about other adults. “I think all of the Today show hosts show their children and their faces on TV,” Megyn said. “Certainly, Savannah does, Hoda [Kotb], and it’s very dangerous. It’s dangerous.”
But she also added, “The mom is a different story. I mean, I showed my mom, too. Because prior to this, nobody ever thought their mom could be potentially endangered, you know? This is a whole new kind of crime.” At the same time, the fact that Nancy’s bedroom, which Megyn described as “the most intimate area,” was shown publicly made it seem more disturbing to her. “It’s a shocking thing to see,” she said.
Megyn was on “Today” for about a year starting in 2017.
And in her experience, hosts face a lot of pressure to connect with the audience by opening up about their personal lives. “This is the thing, you guys,” Megyn said. “I mentioned this to you, but having been at the Today show for a short time, they do really lean on you to overshare.”
Megyn said she understands why there’s this expectation, but that doesn’t change how risky it can be. “They leaned on me to overshare,” she added. “It’s not born out of nefarious intent. They want the audience to feel like they know you. And I get that, but you have to be really careful.”
