There’s a lot that MAGA critics rag on Donald and Melania Trump about, but for the latter, it’s often about her close bond with son Barron Trump. Barron is Melania’s only child, as all of Trump’s other kids are her stepchildren by marriage. Over the years, Melania has doted on Barron, spoken highly of him, and never shied away from sharing how close they are.
Now, however, things might have changed as the towering NYU student is getting older. When Melania appeared on The Big Money Show on Fox News on Sept. 23, she shared an update about Barron, since he is known for being the more reclusive member of the very public Trump family. According to her, everyone’s lives are so busy that there has been a bit of a shift in her relationship with Barron.

Melania told The Big Money Show‘s hosts that Trump is often in the Oval Office until the late hours of the evening. She is busy herself with her own tasks as First Lady. They don’t always get to sit down at the end of a long day and have meals together, and since Barron is equally as busy with his studies, he isn’t exactly skipping home to the White House to break bread with his parents after class.
“It’s less and less family time,” Melania admitted on the show. “It’s suffering because of it. But that’s OK. We are here to work, to do a good job, and that’s what matters. And Barron is already a young man, so sometimes he’s maybe even happy that, you know, I just want to do my stuff. And that’s OK.”
She also shared her advice for busy working moms such as herself. I mean, no busy working mom is on the same level, financially or professionally, as the First Lady, but alright. Melania said that she advises other moms to “schedule” family time if they have to.

Melania is never beating the allegations as a tiger mom. Maybe it isn’t that drastic, but over the years, clips of her with Barron have gone viral for all of the reasons that involve making fun of Melania. From the infamous “suitcase” video with a young Barron to shots of Barron walking alongside his parents in a rare public outing, it seems like any time Melania and Barron are seen together, there is more fodder for haters.
Whether or not that’s fair, so to speak, Melania and Barron are linked to Trump, a polarizing character in the media and as the president. Naturally, those who are against his MAGA movement are also here for any jokes at Lemania and Barron’s expense. When Melania spoke about Barron allegedly needing her often, users on Reddit called her out as a helicopter mom.
“I’m telling you these people are just f–king weirdos,” a user commented on the post. “Every aspect of their life is so far from the average American, it’s f–king nuts.”
Someone else commented, “If your child needs you non stop when they are 19 years old you did a s–ty job of parenting.”
In another post about Barron’s lack of a close bond with his siblings, users blamed Melania for that.
“What!?! A mother is linked to a strained relationship between her child and her adult stepchildren (x2)? I am shocked, I tell you, shocked!” A Redditor commented on that thread.
Barron Trump is one of the most private members of the Trump family.
Despite being Trump’s youngest child and the only child that Trump and Melania share, Barron is known for living a quieter life than his older siblings. He attends NYU in Washington, D.C. and reportedly lives at the White House.
But even when Barron is seen at rare public events with his family, he is quiet and often has a poker face that people try and fail to figure out. Maybe Melania is partly to blame because of their close relationship, but if he starts to branch out on his own, that could change.
