When Melania Trump announced her cause as the first lady and shared that it involves children, even those who are against Donald Trump and his administration had to hand it to her. Kids? Great. Less fortunate kids? Even better. But for those who don’t support Trump, the cracks began to show in Melania’s Be Best campaign. So when she posted about plans to help secure the future for children in the foster care system on X, critics jumped at the chance to prove that Melania isn’t actually doing anything significant for them.
Whether there is any truth to that or not, Trump critics don’t trust Melania, especially after those leaked recordings of Melania came out about her alleged comments about children being separated from their parents due to border closings in 2018. For people who just can’t, and won’t, forget that, anything Melania does in the name of children feels a little forced. That includes anything under her Be Best umbrella.

Melania posted an image that includes a quote from her, apparently. It says, “OUR MISSION IS SIMPLE YET TRANSFORMATIONAL: PROVIDE EVERY YOUNG PERSON FROM THE FOSTER CARE COMMUNITY THE CHANCE TO EARN A COLLEGE EDUCATION, LAUNCH A MEANINGFUL CAREER, AND ACHIEVE LASTING FINANCIAL INDEPENDENCE.”
The purpose of Be Best, which Melania started the first time Trump was in office, is to address issues that children face today and help them to be the best versions of themselves. This includes children in foster care or who have been impacted by the foster care system. But those who don’t support Trump also don’t trust that Melania really has kids’ best interests at heart.
“She didn’t write this,” someone claimed in a comment under the post. “She’s just a propaganda mouthpiece.”
Another wrote, “‘Be best’ isn’t even grammatically correct. I think Melania needs the college education more so than the children.”
“You do nothing except put out an occasional statement,” someone else commented. “Stop pretending you are doing the job of a First Lady.”
Then, another X user went scorched Earth and wrote, “Uh huh. For some reason I don’t f–king believe you, considering everything you and your diaper s–tting husband do is designed to make you f–kers money. You guys don’t give an iota of a s–t about the people trying to survive in the economy your fat f–k of a husband owns.”
She was called out for Donald Trump’s treatment of children in need.
Other X users cited Trump’s lack of work with children and lack of care regarding children of different races as reasons not to trust Melania and her missions as the first lady. Some also claimed that they want to know how Melania feels about helping children, who are now adults, that were affected by Jeffret Epstein, given the rumors of his close friendship with Trump.
“But your ‘husband’ doesn’t want them to have food or medical care,” a user commented. “Maybe Natalie [Harp] could talk some sense into him.”
Another chimed in with, “Pretending to care about children is her game. How much did your husband pay you to make an appearance? Lol.”
Her long exit from the public eye had people talking.
Melania’s X post, and her appearance at Freedom 250 Grand Prix in Washington, D.C. caused some critics to take a closer look at Melania and Trump’s marriage. She was noticeably absent from events and the public eye for weeks leading up to her August reappearance. On Reddit, users speculated if this means Trump needed her to help him look better.
When Melania was seen in the Rose Garden with Trump at the end of August 2026, she joked to reporters, “I heard you missed me.” But the cheeky moment still doesn’t explain why she seemingly disappeared for weeks. Now, critics still don’t trust her or her Be Best campaign.
