Where is First Lady Melania Trump? It’s unclear, but she’s probably not at an event with her husband. Amid speculation that Melania has been quiet-quitting her role (and perhaps her marriage as well), The Daily Beast published a report about Melania’s workload, and it’s looking incredibly light. According to the report, Melania has been seen in public just 38 times this year.
Two of those public appearances were not exactly related to her husband’s job, either. They were actually dedicated to her side hustle: promoting her documentary, Melania, which came out earlier this year.
She has seemed even less interested this summer.
Her public appearances have become even more infrequent during the summer months, which could explain why people have been wondering where she is. According to the report from The Daily Beast, Melania only had five public appearances in June and July combined (three in June and two in July). Two of them were sporting events.
Although it sometimes feels like it’s been a minute since we’ve seen her anywhere, she’s somehow on track to have more public appearances this year than she did last year. In 2025, she only appeared in public 47 times.
The report found that Melania is appearing in public much less often than Michelle Obama and Jill Biden did.
Interestingly, Melania seemed more involved during her husband’s first term. But even then, people questioned where she was and what she was doing with her time. She has always taken a selective approach to her first lady duties, and has even complained about some of the traditions that she (begrudgingly?) participated in, such as decorating the White House for Christmas. Even though she was much busier then than she is now, she still only appeared in public 108 times in 2017.
Unsurprisingly, this has led to a lot of speculation about her marriage. Anthony Scaramucci, a former adviser to President Donald Trump, told The Daily Beast that “it’s pretty clear that they’re not living together.”
However, he added that this “doesn’t mean that she’s not going to show up and be friendly and she’s not going to do certain things.”
The couple exacerbated rumors on the Fourth of July.
This was one of the few events Melania joined her husband for this summer. And although she held his hand at one point, people noticed that she didn’t even seem to look at him as they stood side by side. Critics also noted that the way they were acting felt pretty performative, and once they were out of the spotlight, they reportedly acted more distant.
The president may or may not be bothered by his wife’s involvement (or lack thereof). But Anthony believes it is impacting him in some ways. “When she was more friendly with him, she would tell him to tone it down and he would actually listen to her,” he told The Daily Beast. Earlier this year, the president revealed that his wife had advised him to stop dancing so much because the way he dances is “unpresidential.”
Although her comments about his dancing have not made him stop doing it, he did say he couldn’t be so “effusive” on that particular day because he had “somebody watching” him.
