What to Know
President Donald Trump’s war against Iran has not stopped First Lady Melania Trump from promoting her movie. When Melania took to X to share her “exciting news,” people were not impressed—because maybe it’s not the best time to try to get people to watch your film.
“EXCITING NEWS!” Melania wrote on March 8. “As planned, my new film MELANIA is launching on Prime following its record-breaking theatrical run. Now you can gain unprecedented access to my historical journey, and view the never-before-seen footage, all from the comfort of your own home. Enjoy!”
Obviously, people had other things on their minds.

As planned, my new film MELANIA is launching on Prime following its record-breaking theatrical run.
Now you can gain unprecedented access to my historical journey, and view the never-before-seen footage, all from the comfort of your own home.

Because people are dying, Melania. One critic wrote, “Ma’am, with all due respect, American heroes are dying in the Middle East. This is not the time.” Others were far less polite, telling Melania to “read the room” because people don’t really care about her movie right now. “No one wants to watch this movie during an active f—ing war,” someone else wrote.
We’re in a war and you’re shamelessly self-promoting?

And another critic chimed in with, “We’re in the middle of bombing another country, people are dying, gas prices are up, Americans can’t afford s— – and you’re promoting your film? We don’t care about your journey, we want to stop funding wars and afford to live.”
Besides, people had questions about the alleged “record-breaking theatrical run.”

Melania’s documentary has a 1.4-star rating on IMDb as of March 10, though it’s possible that some of the critics did not watch the film, or watched it knowing that they would hate it. Melania did fairly well when it was first released, and it reportedly earned $16.6 million worldwide, per The Daily Beast. However, these earnings are less impressive when you consider the fact that it reportedly cost $75 million to make.
So, people on social media were curious: What record did the film break, exactly? Some critics actually accused her of lying about the film’s success. “Must you people lie about absolutely everything?” one critic wrote. “The theatrical run was far from record-breaking and is widely regarded as a flop.”
Another person agreed, writing, “‘Record-breaking’… There’s nothing your criminal family won’t lie about.” Someone else joked that Melania must be referring to the record for “most irrelevant film in history.”
However, she might’ve broken a record with her X post, as one critic pointed out. They said, “Considering all that’s happening at present, you win the prize for the most tone deaf and pointless tweet of the week.”
President Donald Trump also boasted about his wife’s movie at a recent event.

On March 9, while addressing House Republicans, the president bragged that his wife is “a movie star” now. “Can you believe this?” Trump said at the event, per People. “That movie was hot and it is hot. She became a movie star. It was a good movie.”
The internet was not convinced he actually watched it, though. “There’s a 50/50 chance he sat down, watched 5 minutes of it and fell asleep or just didn’t attempt to watch it,” one Redditor concluded. Besides, why is “hot” his go-to word? Another critic said, “he needs to stop with saying ‘hot.'” Clearly, people are over it.
