Michelle’s first post perplexed some people who thought maybe Michelle had the baby. She posted a follow-up, clarifying that she and Jean are grandparents. She even revealed the baby’s name is Maxime.
Michelle has no children on her own, but is a stepmom to Nicolas. She was first married to Dickson Poon in 1988. She left acting to start a family with him. When she discovered she could not have kids, the couple decided to divorce.
“I didn't want for us to be bitter 10 years down the road,” Michelle explained to Elle. “Because in Asian families, people want to have sons and daughters [because] they are an extension and a legacy. And when you have the realization [that you can’t have kids], you have to deal with it. You deal with the curveballs that are thrown at you.”
Michelle went back to acting after divorcing Dickson. Her first gig back was the 1992 movie Supercop with Jackie Chan. She got engaged to Alan Heldman in 1998 but the couple broke up in 2000.
In 1994, Michelle met Jean, a French racing executive and former driver, while she was doing publicity for Ferrari. The pair were engaged shortly after meeting but did not get married until 2023, 19 years later.
In 2021, Michelle joked to the Guardian: “We’ve been threatening to get married for such a long time. Sometimes we say, ‘Wait, didn’t we already do it?’”
Michelle and Jean’s wedding program acknowledged their long engagement. “Today after 6992 days on 27th July 2023 in Geneva, surrounded by loving family and friends, we are so happy to celebrate this special moment together!” it read. The couple are now officially man and wife and grandparents.
