Jenny Morrison was a strong and determined mother from Michigan. She had a 6-year-old daughter named Claire who was fairly quiet and kept to herself for the most part when she was at school.
Claire’s teacher, Mrs. Singh, couldn’t help but notice that there was sadness in Claire’s eyes. The educator wondered whether Claire was experiencing some kind of trauma or hardships at home, but she wanted to respect the delicate boundaries that existed between her and her students, so she kept quiet about it for a while.
One day, Mrs. Singh noticed that Claire’s mom, Jenny, came to pick up her daughter wearing a large pair of sunglasses she had never seen her wear before. She thought this was kind of odd, but when she got a little closer to her, she saw what appeared to be a black eye poking through.
Mrs. Singh felt the need to ask Jenny about her black eye as she wanted to make sure that Claire’s home life was a safe space. Jenny smiled oddly and told her daughter’s teacher that she had a clumsy moment and walked into a door. Mrs. Singh wasn’t sure what to believe, but she decided to give her student’s mother the benefit of the doubt.
The next day at school, Mrs. Singh noticed that Claire had come to class with what appeared to be a note sticking out from one of her socks. As she bent down to get a closer look and help her student adjust her socks, Mrs. Singh quickly pulled the note from the sock and went back to her desk.

When Mrs. Singh read the words on the note, she felt the hair on the back of her neck stand up. The note read: “Call the police! Don’t send Claire home.” The teacher knew at that moment that she needed to help her student and her distraught mother.
