When Melania Trump decided to come out of hiding, she made her feelings about White House aide Natalie Harp and Donald Trump pretty clear. Or, rather, the White House did with a post on X. And, OK, maybe Melania didn’t go into hiding, but she was noticeably absent from the public eye for weeks. And, during those weeks, people began to notice how close Harp was to Trump for international travels and White House meetings.
So when the White House shared a video on X where Harp was definitely cropped out and Melania and Trump were featured as a twosome, it seemed pretty obvious. The general idea that people took away from it was that Melania wanted to stand her ground as Trump’s number one lady, and that everyone in Trump’s orbit wanted to put the rumors about Harp to rest.

In the original video, you can see Harp in the background of the presidential suite at the Freedom 250 Grand Prix event. Trump and Melania are sitting closest to the window overlooking the event, while Harp is in one of the seats a few rows up from them. However, in the video posted on X by the White House, Harp is clearly cropped out, with the focus being on Trump and Melania alone.
Whether that was deliberate is up for debate. But those who are pretty certain that Trump and Harp have an extremely close relationship believe the cropping was intentional for whomever is running the White House’s X account. So, an intern, then? Or was it Barron Trump? Someone seemingly meant to crop out Harp since Melania is in the video this time and not in hiding.
In the video, Trump is waving a green flag for the racers, and Melania has a big grin on her face. In the original footage, Harp is not far from the president, as has been the case for months. But with Melania at his side and publicly showing support for him, it seems that the White House is at least trying to lay the Harp rumors to rest.

In another clip on X from the event, Melania stands up and moves out of frame as Harp walks down the steps from her seat to show Trump something on a phone. You then see Harp’s legs remain in the frame for the rest of the clip as she stands close to Trump, seemingly in case he needs something from her. But Melania doesn’t return.
In the comments under the X post, someone joked, “The old wife made room for the new one, lol.”
Another wrote, “The way her whole body language shifts the second Natalie walks in is honestly the most human thing I’ve seen from that building in years.”
Others commented to claim that Melania was simply called away and that a longer clip shows all of them together, watching the race. But for some, the narrative that Melania hates Harp and prefers to not be around her rings more accurate. Hey, we don’t make the rules.
And, someone added, “Weird. I would have thought Melania’d be happy not to have to change or at least smell the diaper.”
There are theories that Melania Trump is paid for her public appearances with the president.
After the White House posted the cropped video, someone commented, “How much does he have to pay Melania for each appearance? I mean that as a serious question. Genuinely curious what her going rate is. Does she raise the rate annually, or is it a per f–k up type of deal?”
No one connected to Trump or the White House has ever admitted this to be true, but there are theories that Trump had to bribe or pay Melania in order to get her to agree to accompany him to events, including the Freedom 250 Grand Prix. It would explain, to some,. Her sudden emergence from being away from the spotlight for weeks.
