Dearest readers, the time has come. The first half of Bridgerton season three dropped on May 16, 2024. This season focuses on the love story between Penelope Featherington and Colin Bridgerton. Viewers are in for a spicy affair.
Thankfully, actors Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton felt safe and cared for during filming. Nicola even requested to be naked in some scenes so she could clap back at body shamers. This made her feel empowered and in control. She opened up about this to Stylist magazine.
Nicola is rightfully comfortable with who she is. She partnered with intimacy coordinator Lizzy Talbot to create passionate and safe choreography for her character. She was allowed to be part of the decision-making process, which isn’t always the case for actresses. "I specifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included," she revealed.
Nicola was not pressured to reveal it all but instead chose to do nudity. "There’s one scene where I’m very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice. It just felt like the biggest ‘[expletive] you’ to all the conversation surrounding my body; it was amazingly empowering," she said.

Nicola knows future-her will be grateful for this period of her life. "I felt beautiful in the moment, and I thought: 'When I’m 80, I want to look back on this and remember how f—ing hot I looked!'" she mused.
Nicola has no regrets. She felt “great” about the nude scenes. She had a say in them. “Not only did I consent to it but I drove it," she explained.
Nicola is proud of the work she and Luke did this season. It feels honest. “It feels very grounded in two people that are not trying to sort of, that they're awkward in front of one another, this and that, and all of a sudden they become like Lotharios in the bedroom and whatever, they get to be intimate together in a very real and beautiful way, and I think that's what makes it so affecting,” she explained to People.
Beyond the sexiness of it all, it is a human story. There are funny moments as well. “In those intimate moments, they find moments to laugh and you see them figuring it out and doing it together, and I love it,” she concluded.
