Nicole Richie is a proud mother of two teens whom she shares with her husband Joel Madden. Since she grew up in the public eye, she tries to shield Harlow, 16, and Sparrow, 14 from the spotlight. The family did walk the red carpet in April 2024 at the premiere of Nicole’s new film Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead.
Nicole appeared on Today to promote the flick on April 8, 2024. She also shared a unique parenting perspective. She loves the teenage years. She remembers exactly what it felt like to be a teen. When Harlow opened up to her about her friendship drama, she could relate.
“I just so clearly remember being 16 that it’s actually surprising how quickly I can go back there,” Nicole 42, told Hoda Kotb. The teen years have actually been Nicole’s “favorite” stage of parenting. She is down for the hard talks, hormones, and angst.
“When my daughter’s telling me drama with her friends, I go, ‘I remember. Laila Heckmath did that to me.’ I remember first and last names, so it’s fun. It’s wild. And just the best,” Nicole went on to say. It's never easy to be a teenager but it's nice to have a mom who is willing to help you through it.

Nicole was thankful her kids were on hand at her movie premiere. It meant a lot to her to share that with them. “Everyone came, the whole fam came. It was very sweet,” she recalled. “They are teens, so they’re pretty chill about it, but they were happy to be there, and they did tell me I did a good job. So I was like, ‘I will take that. Thank you very much.'”
