Over 2,000 Passengers on Norwegian Cruise Line Ship Quarantined, Possible Cholera Outbreak

Over 2,000 passengers onboard a Norwegian Cruise Line Ship were quarantined amid fears of a cholera outbreak that turned out to just be gastroenteritis. The Norwegian Dawn was turned away from the dock in Port Louis, the capital city of Mauritius, and instead docked off the coast of the East African country due to "potential health risks" after 15 passengers were put in isolation due to feeling sick. After experiencing symptoms of a stomach-related illness, the passengers had some testing done to determine the cause.

While multiple media outlets reported the it was suspected to be cholera, Mauritius Ministry of Health Director Dr. Bhooshun Ori said that there was no evidence of the illness on board the ship. Instead, the sick passengers were battling gastroenteritis.

He went on to say that all sick passengers have "fully recovered" since. The ship was then given the clear by Mauritius authorities to dock at the port.
