Oprah Dazzles At ‘The Color Purple’ Premiere And Opens Up About Recent Weight Loss

On December 6, 2023, Oprah Winfrey attended The Color Purple premiere in Los Angeles, California. She has a long history with this story, having served as an executive producer on the film and Broadway musical in addition to starring in the original 1985 film directed by Steven Spielberg. Oprah wowed everyone rocking a fitted floor-length purple gown.

Oprah looked fabulous and opened up on the red carpet about her recent weight loss. She plans to keep her fitness routine up, even though she does not really love it. She said she was on the treadmill earlier that day.

Oprah believes in a holistic approach to wellness. "It's not one thing, it's everything," she mused to Entertainment Tonight. “I intend to keep it that way.”

She works hard every day to maintain her health. "I was on that treadmill today," she said. That is dedication right there.

Oprah got more specific with The Hollywood Reporter in 2017 about her workout routine. “I have a fantastic Octane elliptical machine that is like a power mover — you can increase the length of your stride and your arm movement,” she explained. “I’ll do 20 minutes on the elliptical and 30 minutes walking on the treadmill. I start out at the Level 3 incline setting and then every minute I add to the incline until I get to 12 or 15. And then I do sit-ups.”

She doesn’t forget to cool down either. She alternates doing 10 more minutes of gentle walking or meditating to let her heart rate go back down. This is an important step in her process.

Oprah is honest about not liking working out, but she knows it is necessary for both her physical and mental health. “Here’s the thing about exercise: I still hate it so much,” she told Today in 2020. “I still do it.”

She knows many people feel the same way but maybe think they are alone. “You’re not going to love it, but you do the thing you need to do to make yourself feel whole and well,” she mused.

Earlier this year at Oprah Daily’s "The Life You Want Class: The State of Weight" panel she opened up about deciding not to use weight loss drugs. “Even when I first started hearing about the weight loss drugs, at the same time I was going through knee surgery, and I felt, 'I've got to do this on my own.' Because if I take the drug, that's the easy way out,'" she explained.

This doesn’t mean she judges others who choose that path. "Whatever your choice is for your body and your weight health, it should be yours to own and not to be shamed about it," she urged. "I'm just sick of it, and I hope this conversation begins the un-shaming of it."

Oprah also stunned on the red carpet in purple at the Academy Museum Gala on December 3 in Los Angeles. She wore another stunning purple gown to the event. She was awarded the Pillar Award for “exemplary leadership and support for the Academy Museum."
