There’s something so entertaining about stumbling upon some of your old games and toys from childhood. They immediately bring back a sense of nostalgia that can allow you to start to think about how valuable these toys were to you when you were playing with them with your friends or siblings for hours upon hours. For some, as adults, their minds may go to just how much money the toy might have appreciated in the modern market.
Appearing on the popular TV series, Pawn Stars, a clip from the show has gone viral showing a woman who is hoping to make a pretty penny when she brings them a vintage toy that we all recognize. Unfortunately, her dreams were almost instantly shattered when the experts told her something that might surprise you.
An original 1980s Rubik’s Cube is pretty cool, right? But is it actually worth anything?

Sometimes it takes an expert’s perspective to bring you back to reality.
According to LADBible.com, one simply cannot expect that all toys “were created equally,” as some collectors might be willing to pay top dollar for some vintage toys while others that are still in the original packaging aren’t really worth any more than what you’d pay for them today.
As you can see in the TikTok video that shows a clip from the long-running TV series, Pawn Stars, a woman shows up to chat with Corey and Richard Harrison hoping to sell an original Rubik’s Cube toy from the 1980s.
Initially, it appears that she might be in luck as Richard noted that Rubik’s Cubes are the “best-selling puzzle games of all time,” and she has one in its original packaging, but the guys quickly tell her that the overall design hasn’t changed since the puzzle toy originally came onto the market, so they’re really not worth much today. Pretty disappointing, right?
The ‘Pawn Stars’ experts had some things to say about her vintage toy.

As much as the woman was hoping to make at least $200 from selling her vintage Rubik’s Cube, the only offer the Pawn Stars guys make is a measly $5. Honestly, it would be difficult to not take that as a straight-up insult!
Corey couldn’t help but share that something like the uber popular Rubik’s Cube, which has been on the market for decades and not changed over the years, doesn’t go for the high price tag like some other vintage toys and collectibles.
“It’s not like Star Wars figures where they made a limited number. They made these things, made these things, and they still make them today,” Corey explained.
LADBible.com shared that the inquiring woman from the show might have had better luck if she took her old school Rubik’s Cube to eBay, as they found that same puzzle toy model from 1980 on the website priced at around $124. Now, that’s a lot better than $5!
Lots of people in the comments section were left shocked.
As it turns out, there are lots of folks who are interested in this kind of thing who find it hard to believe that all she made from her 1980 Rubik’s Cube was $5.
One person in the TikTok comments shared their thoughts. They wrote, “This hurts me that original cube is so rare.” Another person couldn’t help but chime in about how it might have been worth some more money if there had been something extra unique going on. “If she had one that’s was signed by Mr. Rubiks himself then we’d be talking about,” they commented. Too funny.
A few people thought that perhaps the Pawn Stars guys were dead wrong when it came to their appraisal. One individual wrote, “It’s worth $548.” We’re not sure about that but another person shared that they thought she could do a lot better and they definitely low-balled her here. “it’s like 100 dollars on ebay,” they shared.
What are your thoughts? Do you have any vintage toys buried in the basement that you’re looking to sell? If you do go that route, perhaps this particular sale from Pawn Stars can help serve as a lesson that things are not always as they seem.
