The Pennsylvania father who was held in Turks and Caicos after ammunition was found in his luggage is speaking up about his experience upon returning home. In an exclusive interview with Good Morning America, Bryan Hagerich and his wife, Ashley Hagerich, said they were preparing for the worst.
Bryan said that he was prepping for "doomsday" as he waited to learn if he'd be sent to prison for over a decade, and he and his wife even made a list of what they'd need if he received the full 12-year sentence.
"Prison is a whole different feeling that, even to this day, right now, I don't think you can ever prepare yourself for it," he shared. He was arrested in February and pleaded guilty to possession of 20 rounds of ammunition, saying he forgot that his hunting gear was in his bag while traveling.
The father had to stay in Turks and Caicos until the end of his case. A judge ended up sentencing Hagerich to a suspended 52-week sentence with a fine of $6,700. He was given his passport and returned to the United States.
