Princess Diana’s Brother Weighs In On The Kate Middleton Health Debate: ‘I Do Worry’

Prince William’s uncle is concerned for Kate Middleton’s health. Charles Spencer appeared on the BBC’s Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg show and talked openly about his apprehensions. The 9th Earl Spencer can’t help but see similarities between Kate’s situation and his sister’s, Princess Diana.

Charles does believe that things have changed for the better since his sister's tragic death in 1997. The paparazzi have backed off but the current online buzz about Kate is comparable. He hopes the truth comes out in the end.

On January 17, 2024, Kensington Palace announced the Princess of Wales underwent a “planned abdominal surgery.” It did not give many details except that Kate would not return to royal duties until after Easter. An edited Mother’s Day photo and the fact that she has not been seen out and about has the rumor mill working overtime. “I do worry about what happened to the truth,” Charles mused.

Charles is thankful that things have shifted because of his sister’s death. “I think it was more dangerous back in the day,” he mused. “If I look back to ’97 and Diana’s death, I think that was so shocking, the circumstance of her death was so shocking, that it did make the industry that supports the paparazzi really consider more carefully what it could and couldn’t do.”

He doesn’t think the tabloids changed out of the goodness of their hearts. He believes public outcry forced their hand. “Not because they had a moral judgment, but because it was unacceptable to the public,” he concluded.
