Some of the celebrities who vocally support President Donald Trump are not all that surprising. But recently, when BuzzFeed asked people to share which celebrities they suspect are unexpectedly Republican, the responses were pretty controversial. Several celebrities who were mentioned, like Nicki Minaj and Sylvester Stallone, are not quiet about supporting Trump. They’re definitely not keeping their MAGA politics a secret.
But some of the celebrities mentioned haven’t outright voiced support for Trump (some have even done the opposite). They’re simply dealing with MAGA allegations.
Taylor Swift was among the people mentioned.
Her inclusion was extremely controversial, given that some people are adamant that she is basically MAGA and others think it’s quite obvious that she isn’t. In recent months, she has faced criticism for being relatively quiet about politics. Previously, Swift has backed Democratic candidates. The person who mentioned her to BuzzFeed admitted that Swift’s not “secretly MAGA.” However, they clearly think she’s not progressive or vocal enough.
“She made SUCH a big deal about finally speaking up about politics in Miss Americana and not wanting to be silent anymore, so I really believed her,” the anonymous respondent explained. “Now she hangs out with loud Trump supporters all the time and barely says anything political.”
In the comments, some people jumped to Swift’s defense. “If Taylor is MAGA, then why does Trump hate her?”one person commented, seemingly referring to the fact that Trump has complained about Swift on multiple occasions and lashed out at her in the form of unhinged Truth Social rants.
Someone also mentioned Adam Sandler, who officiated Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding.
(One commenter said this was “really not a good look” for Swift or Kelce). Sandler is apparently one of those people who has supported Republicans in the past without some of his fans having any idea. He doesn’t really talk about his political beliefs. However, in 2007, he donated to Republican Rudy Giuliani’s presidential campaign.
“Adam Sandler surprised me,” someone told BuzzFeed. “I grew up watching all of his movies and just always assumed he was more liberal for some reason.”
His continued silence has likely exacerbated the MAGA rumors, but in his defense, some commenters argued that supporting a Republican in 2007 is not the same thing as supporting a Republican today. Not everyone is convinced that Sandler supports Trump, but like with Swift, the fact that he continues to hang around some pretty problematic friends (like Rob Schneider) also makes people more suspicious.
Then, there’s also Gwen Stefani.
Stefani has faced MAGA allegations not because of being quiet or having questionable friends, but because of her own behavior on social media. In 2025, she reposted and praised a Tucker Carlson interview with actor Jonathan Roumie. To a lot of critics, sharing a Carlson interview definitely feels like… a choice. But that’s not the only reason people are skeptical of Stefani.
That same year, people accused her of “becoming a right wing grifter” after she promoted Hallow, a Catholic prayer app. Some of her fans were surprised to see her encouraging people to download the app, as they thought back to when she seemed more “rebellious” and “free-spirited.”
So, when asked to weigh in on unexpected quiet Republicans, someone told BuzzFeed, “I was so disappointed in Gwen Stefani.”
