It’s been a year since Joe Alwyn and Taylor Swift ended their six-and-a-half-year relationship, but the 33-year-old British actor just addressed their split for the first time in an interview with the Sunday Times. He reportedly only chose to speak out about it because he was “emotionally drained” from all the constant questions and opinions surrounding the breakup.
A source close to the actor revealed to the Daily Mail that Joe hopes his interview will allow everyone to “move on” from the former relationship for good.
“Joe wanted to get this over with once and for all so he can move forward with his life and his career,” the insider explained. “He never wanted to say anything and was hoping it would all blow over, but it hasn’t. Taylor has made a fortune off their breakup by forming an entire album around it. Meanwhile, he has been cast as 'Taylor’s ex.'”
“He wishes her no ill will, but he also needed her to know that appearing to address their relationship without confirming who she is singing about can have a lasting and hurtful effect on the people/men involved,” they continued. The former pair ended their relationship in 2023, but fans believe that some songs on the 34-year-old’s most recent album, The Tortured Poets Department, are about their breakup.

“He cannot go anywhere without being asked about Taylor. He wants to be asked about his films, not about Taylor,” the source said, adding that it “became depressing and emotionally draining” for Joe. The actor now hopes to return to his quiet lifestyle now that he's finally publicly addressed the split.
