This story is going to completely shock you — and also make you more cautious about eating someone's leftovers. One student's life drastically changed after he ate his roommate's leftovers. The chicken noodle dish had been left in the fridge overnight, and the student ate them for lunch.
But less than a day after eating them, the student fell extremely ill. A handful of health complications led him to have to get all of his limbs amputated. Crazy …right? Read on to learn out more about what caused this to happen.
The student is identified in the video as JC. It is explained that the dish of noodles had been purchased from a restaurant by his roommate the night before. JC's reaction to the noodles was quite strange. This was a young student who had no known allergies, received all his childhood vaccinations, and wasn't a big drinker. He did smoke two packs of cigarettes each week, and smoked marijuana on a daily basis.
JC developed a fever and very high temperature, as well as a pulse of 166 beats per minute. He had to be sedated. Because he was so unwell, he was taken to the intensive care unit of another hospital by helicopter.

According to a report, JC was OK up until 20 hours before being admitted into the hospital. "Diffuse abdominal pain and nausea developed after he ate rice, chicken, and lo mein leftovers from a restaurant meal," the report read. "Five hours before this admission, purplish discoloration of the skin developed, and a friend took the patient to the emergency department of another hospital for evaluation.”
Things progressively worsened for JC. He ended up having to have parts of all 10 fingers amputated, as well as bilateral below-knee amputations.
A Dr. Bernard on YouTube further explained what likely happened to JC. Dr. Bernard explained that the student likely suffered from an aggressive bacterial infection, due to the fact that JC's kidney's failed and his blood began to clot in less than 24 hours after consuming the leftovers.
Blood test results from the first hospital showed that he had a bacteria in his blood known as Neisseria meningitidis, which is also referred to as meningococcus. This is a life-threatening sepsis. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the illnesses are often severe, can be fatal, and include infections of the lining of the brain and spinal cord (meningitis) and bloodstream.
The bacteria that got into his roommate's leftovers can spread through saliva. JC's roommate even threw up after eating some of the noodles the night before.
It was later discovered that JC had never received his booster meningococcal vaccine, which he should have gotten when he was 16. After a long 26 days, JC regained consciousness and his condition has since improved. It's a miracle that he's alive.
