If you're a millennial, Target is probably your place to go. And if Target is your place to go, you probably end up walking out with more than you actually came for. And if you're familiar with shopping at Target, you also know that its stores rarely have enough employees at the front to check customers out, so self-checkout usually comes in handy.
So why it has decided to limit self-checkout to 10 items or less is really baffling a lot of people, especially those shoppers who always seem to leave the store with more than just a few items.
The company gave a reasoning behind this new change, claiming that it will reduce wait times for self-checkout and cashier lanes. At the moment, it's just testing it out in select locations to “better understand guest preferences.”
Maine is the first state in which this new change has taken affect. As of now, the company hasn't given any indication that this change will be rolled out nationwide.

People all over the internet are furious, nonetheless.
"@Target If you’re going to limit the self checkout to 10 items or less, you need to have more cashiers available," one person posted on X. "There’s one person checking a huge line of everyone who is buying more than 10 things. That’s bad #businessmath."
