Ted Cruz’s Resurfaced Warning About Donald Trump Has Never Been More Relevant

The warning Senator Ted Cruz gave everyone about President Donald Trump back in 2016 feels almost creepily relevant today. Ten years ago, when Trump and Cruz were political opponents competing for the Republican nomination for president, Cruz warned people that Trump might one day “nuke Denmark” due to his questionable “temperament.” And now, after a meeting between the United States, Denmark, and Greenland, Cruz’s warning seems “oddly specific” to people.

Trump has repeatedly threatened to take over Greenland, and the recent meeting did not appear to change his mind. After the meeting, Denmark’s foreign minister, Lars Løkke Rasmussen, said there’s still “a fundamental disagreement” with the Trump administration when it comes to the Arctic territory. According to Rasmussen, it’s very “clear that the president has this wish of conquering Greenland.”

And somehow, Cruz warned us about this 10 years ago.

In the resurfaced clip, which has been circulating on social media again over the past few days, Cruz said, “We need someone with the judgment and the temperament to keep this country safe. I don’t know anyone who would be comfortable with someone who behaves this way having his finger on the button.”

He continued, “We’re liable to wake up one morning and Donald, if he were president, would have nuked Denmark. That’s not the temperament of a leader to keep this country safe.”

Reacting to the resurfaced clip on X, one Trump critic called Cruz’s warning “oddly specific” and noted that it “could very well happen soon.” Someone else said, “He predicted it a decade back 😳” A third person added, “Who knew Ted could predict the future?”

And yet, here we are.

People also bashed Cruz for being ‘complacent.’

Because back when Trump was his opponent, he was willing to speak out about this concern. But in 2024, he endorsed Trump for president. “And now he is complacent,” one X user concluded. “How do you trust these politicians and what they say and why they say it! They will not stand for the people they represent.”

Someone else said, “Hey that guy sounds like someone who’d stand up against Trump….oh wait nope. He didn’t and doesn’t.” Some people even tagged Cruz in posts about the resurfaced clip in hopes that he would see it. One of them wrote, “@tedcruz should listen to this guy,” while another said, “@SenTedCruz is this you?” As another critic put it, it seems like the “ghosts of Republicans past” have come back to haunt them once again.
