Toby Keith is dead at the age of 62 after losing his battle to stomach cancer, which he was diagnosed with in 2021. The country singer "passed peacefully" on February 5, 2024, while surrounded by his family, according to a statement that they released on X (formerly known as Twitter) and Instagram.
The "Red Solo Cup" singer publicly shared his cancer diagnosis in June 2022. "Last fall I was diagnosed with stomach cancer. I’ve spent the last 6 months receiving chemo, radiation and surgery. So far, so good. I need time to breathe, recover and relax," the post read. "I am looking forward to spending this time with my family. But I will see the fans sooner than later. I can’t wait. -T."
His family says that he fought a good fight. "Toby Keith passed peacefully last night on Feb. 5 surrounded by his family," the statement said. “He fought his fight with grace and courage. Please respect the privacy of his family at this time."
In 2023, the singer opened up about living with cancer, saying it was "a little bit of a roller coaster. You get good days and, you know, you're up and down, up and down.”
