Tori Spelling is speaking out about what led her to file for divorce from Dean McDermott after 18 years of marriage. Following the news that caught the attention of many across the internet on Friday, March 29, 2024, of her filing for divorce, the 50-year-old actress went into detail about her decision on her new podcast misSpelling.
"I just filed for divorce," she said on the podcast, audibly a little emotional. "Whoa, I just said the words that I've said in my head for, like, 16 years. Wild."
She then called her ex on the phone during the podcast and told him the news of the divorce filing had gone public. Dean's side of the conversation was not shared, but Tori said that he was concerned about the optics of her filing first.
"I feel like I deserve to file first, then. You basically put it all out there with the Daily Mail," she told him, referencing a recent interview. "You said everything that you've done to me all through the years. So I think it would make perfect sense that it's followed up with I would file. Because those are things that I would never have divulged to somebody and you did."

In the 2023 interview, Dean opened up about what led to his and Tori's split. He shared that they hadn't slept in the same bedroom since 2017 and that his alcoholism was a major problem.
"It ended up with me drinking a fifth of tequila every night, seven days a week, and a handful of [prescription meds] by myself with a beautiful family in the other room," he said. "That's what it led to and that's what led to the brokenness and to what happened between me and Tori. I couldn't do it anymore. I couldn't live that life anymore. I was tired of the anger and the yelling."
On her podcast, Tori spoke about having a "fairy tale romance" with Dean at first. "Dean and I had this fairy tale romance, even though we were both married when we met — not fairy tale right there," she said. "But we had other partners that we cheated on and left and then we got together."
She then went on to admit that their relationship wasn't the same after they started having kids. "Everything became focused on the kids and I kind of left him in a way. And I get it. It doesn't excuse his behavior and everything he did," she said.
She shared that at one point, she told a friend she was going to divorce Dean once her kids could unbuckle their own seatbelts, but then she went on to have more children. But over the years, the final straw came during an argument they had in 2023.
Tori said that Dean, who is now sober, "had been drinking" and they were arguing.
"He said, 'Ugh, I'm so sick of this. I have been picking up Tori Spelling's [expletive] for 18 years.' And I [expletive] lost it," she said.
Dean shares that argument haunts him. "My worst memory with Tori is that last fight when I was drunk and angry. It was the night that I raged against her and the children and I saw the light, the final flicker of the flame go out in her eyes," he said. "I didn't know what to do. I had burned everything down yet again."
