What to Know
President Donald Trump has been back in office for over a year now, and we rarely hear anything from Former President Joe Biden, who announced his cancer diagnosis in 2025. At a certain point, it seems like Trump might move on and stop comparing himself to the former president, but it hasn’t happened yet. He has repeatedly bashed and mocked Biden during speeches, joking about his speaking habits and his age.
Previously, Trump joked that Biden wouldn’t have been able to pass the cognitive tests that he himself has “aced.” And now that people have noticed how slowly Trump walks down the steps of Air Force One, he’s somehow blaming Biden for that too.
Trump doesn’t want to be “laughed at” in the way that he thinks Biden was.
Trump has repeatedly said the United States is now “the hottest country in the world.” He’s claimed that he “inherited a mess,” and that people were “laughing at” the United States under Biden’s leadership. And while the president has blamed Biden for many things (many of which have been repeated multiple times at this point), the thing he focused on during his appearance on The Dan Bongino Show might’ve been a new one.
Because of Biden, Trump has to walk down the stairs very, very carefully. Why? “We were laughed at a year and a half ago. We were laughed at as being stupid people. We were laughed at…we see a guy falling up the stairs going into an airplane,” he said, referring to Biden.
He just can’t risk the same thing happening to him.
Although Trump has dismissed concerns about his getting older, he seemed to admit that the same thing that happened to Biden could happen to him. In March 2021, Biden tripped on the Air Force One steps three times. Now, it seems like Trump is genuinely scared that he could stumble too, which is why he walks so slowly.
“I gotta be very careful going in,” he explained. “Ever noticed how slowly I am these days? Nice and slowly, I’m not looking to set any records. You don’t wanna go down. Could happen, could happen. But it can’t happen three times in one shot, OK?”
Trump said he doesn’t think he’ll actually trip, but he did admit that it’s possible. “I don’t think you’ll ever see anything like that, but it could happen,” he said. “So I have to be a little bit open, I have to say it could happen, but you ever watch me, I come down nice and slow. I’m not looking to set any records.”

He also seemed to (sort of) compliment Barack Obama.
Still hung up on walking up and down the stairs, Trump also praised a former president who was able to do this very well. He seemed to be talking about Obama, the Daily Mail reported. At the same time, Trump couldn’t manage to compliment Obama without also insulting him, so he said that Obama’s ability to walk down the stairs was “the only thing [he] respected” about him. He also added that it actually “didn’t look elegant at all.”
Trump continued, “He bopped down the stairs. He would be in the middle. I thought it looked so terrible, you know? This is the president of the United States. He’s bopping down, you know, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop, bop. And I kept waiting for him to fall and he didn’t.”
The fact that Obama never fell down the stairs was almost unfathomable to Trump, even though Obama was significantly younger. “‘I was impressed with his ability to go down the stairs like that,” Trump said. “I mean, I wouldn’t want to do it. You know, those stairs are very slippery, and I always used to say he’s an accident waiting to happen, and to the best of my knowledge, it didn’t happen, so I give him credit.”
Because, of course, he can’t say that he wants to walk carefully and avoid falling without bringing Biden and Obama into it somehow.
