Trump Deletes Post With Image Depicting Himself As Jesus After Backlash

President Donald Trump’s Truth Social account removed an image depicting him as a Christ-like figure, after the post generated a wave of outrage from those across the political spectrum including some conservatives who deemed it blasphemous. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Late Sunday evening, Trump posted an apparently AI-generated photo of himself dressed as Jesus, healing a sick man as doctors and members of the military watch in adoration with a U.S. flag, bald eagles, the Statue of Liberty and fighter jets in the background. (See the full image below.) That came after the president had blasted Pope Leo in a tirade on Truth Social as “weak” for opposing the Iran war.

Several major supporters of Trump had objected to the Jesus Christ imagery and called for the president to remove it.

“Seriously, I cannot understand why he’d post this. Is he looking for a response? Does he actually think this?” conservative influencer Riley Gaines posted on X Monday morning. “Either way, two things are true. 1) a little humility would serve him well 2) God shall not be mocked.”

Joey Jones, co-host of Fox News’ “The Big Weekend Show,” wrote on X, “That picture is looney tunes. I don’t clutch pearls or feign outrage I think all politicians are narcissistic by nature. But cmon amigo, no unforced errors would be great!”

“This is gross blasphemy. Faith is not a prop,” conservative political activist Brilyn Hollyhand wrote about the Trump post. “You don’t need to portray yourself as a savior when your record should speak for itself. The same God who saved Trump’s life from that bullet sent His son Jesus to die for our sins. He died for Trump just as much as for you and I.”

Michael Knowles, who hosts a show for right-wing outlet The Daily Wire, said on X, “I assume someone has already told him, but it behooves the President both spiritually and politically to delete the picture, no matter the intent.”

Actor Morgan Freeman commented, “Most disrespectful ‘leader’ in American history” in quoting a post by Knights Templar International saying in part that they “demand that this offensive and blasphemous image be removed forthwith ! We supported President Trump in 2016 and 2024… However we are deeply offended by this and have no other choice but to condemn it wholeheartedly and ask for a public apology to the Christian brethren who have been deeply upset by this depiction. We respectfully [remind] President Trump of the Bible Scripture found in Galatians 6:7 ‘God will not be mocked.'”
