What to Know
President Donald Trump clearly loves comparing himself to Former President Joe Biden, but he’s probably not a huge fan of the comparison currently circulating on social media. You’ve probably heard about how Trump decided to skip his son Donald Trump Jr.’s wedding this past weekend. His excuses were really something.
And now, an old message from Biden has resurfaced because it shows the stark contrast between the two of them.
Trump initially said he would “try” to attend Don Jr.’s wedding.
Reporter: Are you attending your son’s wedding?

Trump: He’d like me to go. I’m going to try. I said, this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things. He’s a person I’ve known for a long time. pic.twitter.com/lGdjvU7oD0
He certainly didn’t make it sound like a priority. When a reporter asked him whether he planned on attending the wedding, he said, “He’d like me to go.” But…
“It’s going to be just a small little private affair and I’m going to try and make it,” he continued. “I said, ‘You know, this is not good timing for me. I have a thing called Iran and other things.'”
He also said he was in a difficult position because “the fake news” would criticize him whether he attended or not (Why not just go then?) Then, he seemingly referred to his own son as “a person I’ve known for a long time.”
Later, he confirmed he would not be attending, and also added some more interesting excuses.

In an update shared on Truth Social, he wrote, “While I very much wanted to be with my son, Don Jr., and the newest member of the Trump Family, his soon to be wife, Bettina, circumstances pertaining to Government, and my love for the United States of America, do not allow me to do so. I feel it is important for me to remain in Washington, D.C., at the White House during this important period of time. Congratulations to Don and Bettina!”
Now, he’s being compared to Biden, who encouraged people to prioritize their families.

In light of these interesting explanations from Trump, an old Biden memo has resurfaced. Former U.S. Public Delegate to the United Nations Andrew Weinstein shared the old memo on Threads and captioned it with, “Joe Biden once wrote a memo saying he’d be disappointed if staff missed family milestones for work. Donald Trump is skipping his son’s wedding this weekend. Tells you all you need to know.”
The memo was dated November 7, 2014. Biden was serving as vice president at the time. In a message to his “wonderful staff,” Biden wrote that he wanted to “take a moment and make something clear to everyone.”
He then went on to say that he didn’t want any staffers to prioritize their work over their families. “I do not expect nor do I want any of you to miss or sacrifice important family obligations for work,” he wrote at the time. “Family obligations include but are not limited to family birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, any religious ceremonies such as first communions and bar mitzvahs, graduations, and times of need such as an illness or a loss in the family.”
He added that this was actually such a priority for him that he would be disappointed if he found out that anyone who was working with him missed “important family responsibilities” due to work.
Reactions to the comparison were mixed.

Some people defended Trump and said being the president is a bit different from being a staff member. Several Trump critics argued that Trump isn’t necessarily prioritizing work over family, either. Instead, they think he’s prioritizing himself. “He can’t even make the effort for his own family, Trump is all about himself 👀🙈” one critic wrote.
Another said, “Trump has no issue golfing every weekend while our country is at war in which he started…..but missing his son’s wedding? Pulease…. Smh.”
