What to Know
The White House responded Saturday as rumors swirled on social media that Donald Trump had been rushed to Walter Reed National Medical Military Center.
“Deranged liberals cook up insane conspiracy theories when @POTUS goes 12 hour without speaking to press,” the Rapid Response 47 account on X wrote. “(They said nothing when Biden routinely went 12 days without speaking to press).
“Fear not! President Trump literally never stops working.”
White House Director of Communications Steven Cheung also shared a post on X that seemed to address the rumors.
“There has never been a President who has worked harder for the American people than President Trump,” Cheung wrote at about 3 p.m. “On this Easter weekend, he has been working nonstop in the White House and Oval Office.
“God Bless him.”
And, for good measure, the Rapid Response 47 account also shared an Ed Krassenstein post that read, “BREAKING: Speculation is rising that Donald Trump is at Walter Reed Medical Center,” and responded, “No, you’re just a weapons-grade moron.”
Trump was also active on Truth Social.
“Remember when I gave Iran ten days to MAKE A DEAL or OPEN UP THE HORMUZ STRAIT,” he wrote Saturday morning. “Time is running out — 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them. Glory be to GOD! President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
Later in the day he wrote, “If you import The Third World, you become The Third World!’ – AND THAT’S NOT GOING TO HAPPEN TO THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AS LONG AS I AM PRESIDENT. PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP.”
There was no evidence that the president was hospitalized.
So, how did the rumors get started when it certainly seemed as though the president was not in the hospital.
Well, it appears to be a combination of things, including claims that the roads around the hospital had been shut down.
Also, the White House put a lid on media access just before noon. Folks appear to have taken the two, mixed them together, and ran with the rumors that had “Walter Reed” trending on X.
Those rumors were also debunked by White House correspondent Hugo Lowell.
“The White House has called a travel/photo lid as of 11 am ET, meaning we do not expect to see the president for the rest of the day,” Lowell posted on X Saturday afternoon. “Trump is in Washington this weekend but we are yet to have a formal news briefing on the situation with the missing airman in Iran.”
“Trump has been at the White House today, as evidenced by the presence of a Marine outside the West Wing,” Lowell added. “There has not been any travel to his golf course at Trump National or Walter Reed.”
