What to Know
Just a couple weeks after sharing a racist post depicting Barack and Michelle Obama as monkeys, President Donald Trump had the audacity to share something calling Michelle racist. On February 21, the president took to Truth Social to re-post something originally written by far-right activist Laura Loomer. In the original post, Laura referred to Michelle as an “anti-white racist.”
In her post, Laura complained about Netflix.
Laura’s post was pretty lengthy. In it, she called out Netflix, which she referred to as an “anti-American, WOKE company.” She specifically targeted Netflix board member Susan Rice, who was also Obama’s national security advisor. Laura wrote, “Making this more horrifying is the fact that if the Netflix-Warner Bros. merger is approved, positive messaging of the Democrats’ upcoming witch hunts against Trump from Barack Hussein Obama @BarackObama and his anti-white racist wife Michelle @MichelleObama would likely be blasted across all streaming services as the Obamas’ Higher Ground Productions continues to grow within Netflix.”
She added, “The Netflix-Warner Bros. merger would result in a streaming monopoly, which the Obamas will have a significant stake in. President Trump @POTUS must kill the Netflix-Warner Bros. merger now.”
The president also added his own commentary.
When he re-shared Laura’s post, he also called Susan racist. He added, “Netflix should fire racist, Trump Deranged Susan Rice, IMMEDIATELY, or pay the consequences. She’s got no talent or skills – Purely a political hack! HER POWER IS GONE, AND WILL NEVER BE BACK. How much is she being paid, and for what??? Thank you for your attention to this matter. President DJT.”
But how is Trump of all people calling people racist? Because people have not forgotten the post he shared just a couple of weeks ago (along with all of the questionable explanations that followed). Before the racist post was deleted, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended it, saying, “Please stop the fake outrage and report on something today that actually matters to the American public.”
She claimed that the racist post came “from an internet meme video depicting President Trump as the King of the Jungle and Democrats as characters from the Lion King.” And although the post was later deleted, Trump insisted that he “didn’t make a mistake.”
After the controversy, a reporter asked Leavitt if the White House has a social media problem.
Because the racist post was eventually blamed on staffers, people understandably had questions, like who approved this post and how did this happen? A reporter asked Leavitt, “Does the White House have a social media problem at the moment?” and “Do you have an auto-posting problem that’s leading to these mistakes?”
But she said, no, the White House does not have a social media problem. Other people would beg to differ, though.
