Trump Caught In Another Lie About His Reflecting Pool Drama

President Donald Trump’s reflecting pool drama just keeps getting worse for him. Although he’s blamed the damage to the pool on “vandals,” even Trump loyalist Jeanine Pirro has reportedly said that’s not the case.

People have also identified multiple inconsistencies in what Trump has said about his reflecting pool renovation project. For example, CNN journalist Kaitlan Collins pointed out that before the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool renovation project was complete, Trump bragged about how “if you had a knife, you can’t even cut it.”

Then, when it was damaged, he tried to say, “Somebody went in with a knife and cut it.” Hmm. OK. Now, CNN has pointed out another way in which things just aren’t adding up.

Recently, Trump tried to claim he didn’t know the contractor who worked on the project.

This is, of course, a bold claim to make when video footage exists. Because it is basically the opposite of what he said before all the drama ensued. CNN recently showed a more recent clip of Trump and an earlier clip side by side to demonstrate how he’s changed his story.

“Now I’m not saying I was 100% thrilled with the contractor,” Trump said in the more recent clip. “But the contractor was rushing. We wanted to get it open for July Fourth. And we got it done.”

He added, “By the way, I didn’t know the contractor… but, when it was completed, it was perfect.”

Previously, he referred to the contractor as his contractor.

Which, you know, would be an interesting way to refer to a contractor he didn’t know. Trump also previously recalled a conversation he had with the contractor.

In the older clip, the president said, “I said, ‘You know, Doug, I have a guy who is unbelievable at doing swimming pools’… I’m going to send my contractor over, take a look. He looked at it; he called me up and said, ‘So, we can do something on it. We have a color: it’s called American Flag Blue.’ I said, ‘That’s the color I like.’ He talked me into it very easily.”

So, I don’t know, it kind of sounds like he knows this contractor…

People are not necessarily surprised that Trump can’t seem to keep track of his own stories.

Reacting to a clip of the CNN footage on X, someone wrote, “It’s hard to remember and keep up with lies when that’s all you do.”

People also accused Trump of changing his story to suit his narrative. California Rep. Mike Levin wrote, “Trump knew the contractor when he was taking credit for the Reflecting Pool renovation. But now that it’s been botched, he’s never heard of him? Funny how that works.”

It also seems to be a pattern, other critics pointed out. “How many people has he just suddenly not (known) after the s— hits the fan?” one of his critics questioned.

Still, the fact that Trump gets away with this is baffling to many of his critics, especially because video footage exists. Another critic pointed out that the Trump administration calls news outlets like CNN “fake news,” but reports like this one are just clips of things Trump has actually said.

“I love how MAGA always says fake news media and it’s literally just showing Trump talking,” they wrote.

“This guy thinks we’re all fools, and that video recording isn’t a thing,” someone else added.
