Trump Exacerbates Dementia Concerns By Telling The Exact Same Story Yet Again

On June 23, President Donald Trump stopped by a Mack Trucks facility in Pennsylvania and gave a speech about the state of the U.S. economy, while also veering off onto some other topics. At one point, he spoke about his “fat friend” who was taking a weight loss drug like Ozempic and was shocked by the cost of it in the U.S. compared to other countries.

And if you feel like you know all of the details of this story, you’re not alone. As clips from this part of his speech started circulating on social media, people pointed out that the story sounded extremely familiar.

Trump said his friend is a “slob.”

“A friend of mine who’s extremely fat, sloppy, but very brilliant,” Trump said at the recent event. “He’s a brilliant businessman, but he’s a slob. There’s no question about it. Very neurotic person, which you need sometimes to be successful. But he called me. He used to call me Donnie. Donnie! Now he calls me Mr. President. That’s a sign of great respect.”

Trump continued, “When he said, Mr. President, I just came over here…I bought the fat drug. I said, ‘I didn’t know you used it because it’s not working.’ …He’s begging me not to use his name, so I won’t. But he’s very successful. He’s actually a pretty well-known guy.”

Where have I heard these lines before? Oh, right. Trump told the exact same story at a maternal healthcare event back in May. And at a Cabinet meeting in February. And also many other times.

If Trump is worried about the dementia rumors, he should maybe get some new stories to tell.

Because telling this “fat friend” story again and again definitely isn’t helping. “How many times has he repeated this story?” one person wrote on X in response to the recent iteration of this story.

Some critics actually tried to put a number on it. “I have heard him repeating this same story for more than 10 times,” one of them commented. Someone else said, “He has told this bs story a thousand times ! F—in exhausting !”

So, clearly, people are tired of it. “Why is it the same s— over and over??” one critic asked. Trump has actually shared this story so many times that some people assumed an old clip had resurfaced on social media. “Is this the same shtick over and over or just an old clip on repeat?” a commenter questioned.

Meanwhile, some people could tell it was more recent. “Would’ve thought this was a clip from the summer of 2024 if not for the worsening dementia,” someone wrote.

Although people have heard this story many times before, they’re still trying to guess who Trump’s “fat friend” might be.

And people overwhelmingly speculated that Trump is actually just talking about himself. Some of them assumed that Trump actually had to be talking about someone else though. “I thought he was talking about himself but he said brilliant businessman,” one critic commented. To be fair, Trump probably would describe himself as a brilliant businessman, even if others would disagree.

There were also a few other guesses thrown out there, such as White House Communications Director Steven Cheung. “There he goes slamming Steven Cheung again,” someone else wrote.

We might never know for sure who this “fat friend” is. But we will probably hear this exact same story again.
