If you’re the president and you’re going to spend Easter weekend playing hooky, you might want to make sure the White House director of communications doesn’t say otherwise. Because when Donald Trump‘s director of communications Steven Cheung posted about Trump working extremely hard on X (formerly Twitter), people took notice.
They also took notice when photos of the president were shared across the social media platform that showed him doing anything but working extremely hard. Cut to everyone who cannot stand Trump calling him out on social media for spending the weekend of Easter 2026 working on his back-swing rather than, oh I don’t know, the many crises in the United States.
Trump’s golf clothes are hard to mistake.

After Cheung claimed Trump was hard at work, someone else on X posted a photo of Trump exiting a car at the White House and seemingly sneaking back in, trying to be slick about where he really was all day. Nope, it wasn’t at a meeting about the conflict in Iran or any number of other issues in the U.S. Instead, per his obvious golf clothes, Trump appears to have been golfing instead of working. Since the American people were led to believe the latter, it was a bit of a slap in the face.
“White House Communications Director Steven Cheung says Trump was ‘working nonstop in the White House and Oval Office over Easter Weekend,'” the user wrote in their post on X when they shared the photo of Trump. “Meanwhile, Trump is photographed on Sunday sneaking into the White House after golfing in Virginia.”
Someone commented to point out that if Trump had returned from Virginia after golfing, he was clearly trying to keep it on the down-low. Trump is known for hitting the links in Florida and being photographed doing so. It sounds like he used Virginia as the perfect spot so as not to be seen, well, not working.
“Trump’s a lazy country club gigolo with no redeeming qualities,” someone wrote on X in response to the post. “Vile and repugnant as he was when he was wingman for Jeffrey Epstein.”
Someone else added, “He has never worked ‘nonstop’ in his entire pathetic life. He is nothing but a part time president and it’s not too soon to also label him as the lame duck.”
The White House said Trump was working hard on Easter.
It might be one thing if Trump was out golfing on Easter or over the weekend leading up to the holiday if no one had first claimed he was hard at work. But Cheung definitely did, which is why so many people were ready to point out all the reasons they believe Trump is wrong for his sneaky golf outing.
“There has never been a president who has worked harder for the American people than President Trump,” he wrote in the X post on April 4, 2026, the day before Easter. “On this Easter weekend, he has been working nonstop in the White House and Oval Office. God Bless him.”
But Trump’s critics didn’t save their scathing comments for the post with the photo exposing Trump golfing on Easter. Someone commented on Cheung’s post with, “He falls asleep in meetings and golfs on taxpayers dollars. He’s a lazy piece of s–t just like you Steven!”
People question why Trump even bothers lying to the American people.
Although many took issue with the lie from the White House about Trump being busy with work all Easter weekend, others feel it’s par for the course. No pun intended. Those who have become so disenfranchised with the U.S. government have also come to expect this sort of behavior.
“Why do they bother lying, when they know we’re going to find out?” Someone wrote under the X post with Trump’s picture at the White House. “All that fake Christian piety, and he can’t be bothered to go to ONE church service.”
“I for one am shocked that Steven Cheung would post something that is not true. Shocked!” Another user wrote.
Another commenter shared, “Administration is full of liars from top to bottom.”
