There’s a lot that can be said about JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance. And, while some of it might just be a lot of judgement and shade from those opposed to Donald Trump and everyone in his orbit, one thing that has stuck for some is the idea that Vance and Usha just aren’t well-suited for each other.
Sure, they’ve been married since 2014 and they have a few kids together. But, after someone shared a clip on X of Vance and Usha together promoting her reading initiative for kids, their chemistry was called into question. Well, technically, their chemistry, their love for each other, an even their general like or dislike of one another was up for debate.
There might be obvious signs about JD and Usha Vance.
I have never in my entire life of reluctant heterosexuality had a man slap my knee like that.

You can’t convince me these people know each other’s coffee orders let alone have been intimate together.🥴 pic.twitter.com/EFYYipFUKV
In the X post, the user who shared the video wrote, “I have never in my entire life of reluctant heterosexuality had a man slap my knee like that. You can’t convince me these people know each other’s coffee orders let alone have been intimate together.”
The offensive knee slap in question is in regards to Vance playfully patting Usha’s knee in the clip. It seems to be his way of being affectionate with her in an innocent way on-camera. But for those who were already sure that Vance and Usha aren’t great together, it was pure fodder for their theories.
“I am betting they are rarely intimate and it is cold,” one person commented on the X post. “I know couples who show no signs of PDA that at [least] seem to like each other. Her self-esteem is either so low or she is more concerned with getting the title of FLOTUS to stay with him.”
Another user wrote, “This is exactly what a man does, when he’s in company (or public television) and wants to reassure his cute little pregnant wife that she did a good job and that he’s going to play along with her show.”
“That’s one of the most awkward attempts at affection I’ve ever seen,” someone else wrote.
Someone claimed that the relationship is scripted at this point.

Other people actually claimed that Vance and Usha’s relationship is “scripted.” Apparently, some people think that the chemistry is so off, or even completely non-existent, that Vance and Usha’s marriage isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Which is totally fine, by the way, because, really, who cares that much? But people can’t help pointing out where they see shortcomings with the couple.
“It’s not the pat on the knee, it’s the ‘good to see ya,'” a user commented on X. “I think that’s a phrase for the guy coming to fix the air conditioning.”
“It was weird & fake,” another person said, simply. “Vance is now fully in the category of being a hand-muppet for the extreme right. DOESN’T HE GET WE CAN SEE THROUGH THE BULLS–T? It’s the curse of weak men. Instead of being, they are aping. It’s visible from outer space.”
The couple’s body language was called into question before.
This isn’t the first time that people had thoughts on Usha and Vance’s relationship. In April 2026, Irish Star reported that there was alleged physical distance between the pair. This was also hot off the months of time Vance put in with Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk and former Turning Point USA CEO. Some even speculated that there was something going in between Vance and Erika at the time. But there’s really no excuse for the renewed interest and theories about Usha and Vance.
