It’s nothing new for the White House to take an established brand or song and use it to post something on social media. It’s even more common for Donald Trump’s administration to keep posts up despite any copyright issues, and regardless of whether or not people have complaints about the White House’s usage of these things on social media. Now, the complaint is from those against MAGA who saw the White House’s post on X using the Sesame Street logo and even vague likenesses of key characters from the PBS show.
I mean, if Trump did not take it upon himself to ensure the loss of billions of dollars in funding for things like PBS, maybe people would be less inclined to blast the White House for the X post. But how are you going to use Sesame Street to push Trump’s agenda, all while caring so little about how Sesame Street can even stay on the air for children everywhere to be able to watch it without paying for it? That’s the question now.

The X post included a photo of the classic Sesame Street street sign with ‘Education Freedom’ written where the show’s title usually goes. There is also a blurry photo of what appears to be Big Bird in the background. Text on the photo lays out what Trump has done for education, which includes “returning education to the states” and “barring men from women’s sports,” among other so-called accomplishments.
“Letter of the day is F – for FREEDOM,” the post says. “President Donald J. Trump has restored education freedom to families across America.”
The post came after Trump invited educators to the White House to celebrate the start of the 2026-2027 school year. According to the White House, Trump’s Working Families Tax Cuts help in giving awarded families “up to $1,700 for scholarships covering tuition, books, and other costs at private and public schools.” The White House also declared that Trump cracked down on schools in the United States allegedly helping transgender children with transitions behind their parents’ backs. To date, there has been no concrete evidence of that.
Critics have other “letters of the day” for the Trump Administration.
After the White House made the X post, users commented to joke about their own “letter of the day.” Each episode of Sesame Street typically includes a letter to teach young viewers words that start with it, the sounds it makes, and how to remember it. The X post is a clear homage to that, but anti-MAGA individuals aren’t having it.
One person wrote, “Letter of the day is F – for FAILURE.”
Someone else took it a step further and commented, “In Trump’s case, F is for fascism and fake president, feckless, faulty, fickle, fabricates, fearful, feeble, fiendish, filthy, fraudulent, foul, fragile, and definitely foolish.”
Another wrote, “The letter of the day is N – for NATALIE HARP.” Which is, of course, in reference to Trump’s favorite White House aide.
Donald Trump is responsible for defunding PBS.
In 2025, Trump signed an executive order that canceled $9 billion that had been set aside for not only public broadcasting, which includes PBS, but also foreign aid, per PBS. Roughly $1.1 billion was specifically meant for PBS, NPR, and other public broadcasting outlets. People haven’t forgotten that.
“Wow! Using Sesame Street as your background while having defunded the show is so on brand with the clowns in this administration,” a user replied to the White House’s X post.
Another added, “You are disgusting and stupid if you think we don’t notice your overreach in blurring @PBS Sesame Street and Big Bird who are Key Symbols Of Resistance to your slimy governance.”
