The body of a woman who collapsed at home in Russia was recently found partially eaten by her swarm of 20 Maine Coon cats. Authorities were called to the woman's home after an employee of hers requested they check on her. The employee says they were unable to get in touch with the woman for several days, prompting their concern.

Authorities believe the woman must have died roughly two weeks before her remains were found.
Animal experts seem to agree that, as disturbing as the details of the story might be to some, the cats were left without a lot of options.

One animal expert told the New York Post, "The cats were left alone on their own for two weeks, there was no food, so what else to eat? It’s understandable right? They ate what there was."
The Post also notes that the cats that were still relatively healthy were sold to new owners for £29 (about $35), though it's unclear if the owners were given any history about the cats prior to the sell.
This isn't the first time cats have been known to eat a body as it was decomposing. The Post notes that a pair of cats once broke into a research lab in Colorado and began eating bodies there. Sara Garcia, who authored a study on the incident, revealed that the cats each chose one body to eat. She explained, "The main theory is that cats are picky eaters."
