Yolanda Saldívar, Accused Killer Of Selena, Speaks From Prison In New Docuseries

Yolanda Saldívar, the woman who was found guilty of killing Mexican American singer Selena Quintanilla-Pérez, is getting the opportunity to tell her story. Saldívar has been in prison for nearly three decades after she shot and killed Selena at a Days Inn motel in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1993. Selena was 23 years old at the time of her tragic death. But Saldívar claims that she "knew her secrets," as she said in the trailer for Selena & Yolanda: The Secrets Between Them, a new Oxygen True Crime docuseries.

"I think the people deserved to know the truth," Saldívar said in the trailer. The docuseries includes prison interviews and interviews with Saldívar's relatives. The docuseries is meant to tell Saldívar's side of the story.

To many fans, friends and family members of Selena, the fact that Oxygen would give Saldívar this platform to share her story is deeply offensive.

Abraham Quintanilla, Selena's dad, has criticized the docuseries, according to TMZ. TMZ reported that Abraham said Selena's family does not support the project in any way, and he is not interested in what Saldívar has to say because he doesn't believe what she says.

Fans also took to X to express their disgust.

"Shame on you!" one person wrote on the platform. "This is so unbelievably disrespectful to Selena’s family. Those poor people have had to grieve the loss of their loved one and you’re allowing her killer to have a platform ."

Another person wrote "there is no story to tell."

"She took advantage of Selena's kindness, stole money from her, and murdered her in cold blood when she was confronted," the person wrote on X. "I have zero interest in hearing 'her side of the story' and whoever gave her the time of day should be ashamed of themselves."

Saldívar had been the president of Selena's fan club. Selena's family later accused Saldívar of embezzlement, according to NBC News.

Saldívar has maintained her innocence and has said that killing Selena was unintentional.

While at Days Inn Hotel, Selena was seen running down the hall — clearly running from someone, according to USA Today.

"She was running from a girl that she had been talking to," a Days Inn housekeeper said, according to the outlet. "Selena ran out of the room and near the pool, and then the girl followed her and shot her while she was running."

Selena reached the lobby, screaming, but later passed out. Before she died, she said Saldívar had shot her, according to Today.com.

Saldívar sat in the parking lot for hours before she surrendered to police.

Now, Saldívar wants to share her interpretation of what happened, but it seems that people are not having it — and many have made it clear that they have no desire to watch the docuseries or hear Saldívar's story.
