This 8th-Grade Test From 1912 Is Trickier Than You’d Think. How Did You Do?

It is definitely difficult to remember everything we learned in school.

As I've gotten older, I've forgotten more and more of the math and science that I learned when I was growing up. I try to keep up on my history, but even that sometimes needs a brush-up. When I saw this eighth-grade test, I thought to myself, "I can handle this. It's only eighth grade, after all." But then I saw when the test was from…

Recently, a copy of a test from 1912 was donated to Bullitt County's historical museum. This Kentucky exam was a pretty big deal for students at the time. While children would attend classes in one-room schoolhouses all across the county, they would come together once or twice a year at the county courthouse to take this test known as the "Common Exam."

Several of the questions are outdated, and there are a few mistakes on the test, but I can't help but be relieved that I wasn't in school in 1912. This eighth-grade test is on the long side so it had to be given in a scroll form.

Still, I have to know if I am smarter than an eighth grader… from 1912. I'll be taking this interesting, historical exam — will you?
