Adele Celebrates Her Birthday With Shout-Out To Essential Workers: ‘You Are Truly Our Angels’

When it comes to singing about love, heartache, and all of the feelings in between, Adele has been the queen. The artist has been mostly lying low these days, but she chose to celebrate her birthday by looping in some important people — namely, essential workers and first responders.

While many of us have the choice to work from home, these workers and responders are literally putting their lives on the line every day. Many are dealing with people who've tested positive for the virus. A large majority go into work scared, nervous about the number of patients they may need to see. Many hospitals are still low on protective gear and beds. So it's nice that Adele made a point to acknowledge them. She wrote:

“Thank you for the birthday love. I hope you’re all staying safe and sane during this crazy time.
I’d like to thank all of our first responders and essential workers who are keeping us safe while risking their lives! You are truly our angels ♥️
2020 okay bye thanks x”

If Adele just officially dismissed 2020, then it must be official.

Adele didn't have the easiest 2019, either. She filed for divorce from her husband, Simon Konecki. The two tied the knot back in 2016 during a private ceremony. The two share a son together, Angelo Adkins. Supposedly, the birth of Angelo made her reconsider a lot of things.

"Adele is very involved with his school," an insider said to People magazine. "She loves her mom life. Her whole mindset changed after she decided she wanted to be a healthier mom, and she never looked back." That said, plenty of fans have noticed Adele's dramatic weight loss during the last year.

The singer reportedly made a lot of lifestyle changes that led to her new figure. "She feels great both physically and mentally," the source said. "It was never about losing weight. She feels stronger, has more energy and acts very happy." That's the most important part — how she's feeling is more important than how she looks.

Adele hasn't used her Instagram account that much recently. But while a break is normal, the new changes she's made seem more drastic to fans. People first took note during a Christmas photo shoot she had with the Grinch. That photo, posted in December, was the last photo she posted prior to her well-wishes for her birthday.

Some of her biggest followers noticed that her birthday announcement was a bit more toned down this year than in prior years. And that's also very relatable. It seems like it's hard to muster the energy for fun and creative posts during a time like this.

For example, back in 2015, she morphed into George Michael. She referred to him as her idol and used the hashtag of #gottahavefaith. Sadly, George died unexpectedly just a year later in 2016. It must have been tough news for Adele, but at least she'll always have music as a way of paying tribute.

That said, it's possible that we'll be hearing more from Adele soon. Her next album is set to be released in September. Adele dropped the news herself, while singing at a friend's wedding. It's good to know that she's still down for private events, as she's such a big star.

It'll be interesting to see if any of her songs reflect her relationship with Simon. You might not realize it, but they were together for five years before making it official. And she's confirmed in the past that one of her big songs was written with him in mind.

That song? "Water Under the Bridge." Adele is usually private about her relationship and family, but she made a point to say that she wrote that one specifically about her now-ex husband. "It was sort of about a relationship suddenly getting really, really serious, and then getting a bit frightened by it, and then realizing that ‘I think this must be right,'" she said. "'This is the relationship that I want to be in for as long as I can possibly be in it.'"

To some, their relationship may have seemed a bit rushed. She announced they were dating in January of 2012, and Angelo arrived shortly afterward. "I’m delighted to announce that Simon and I are expecting our first child together," she said, per Us Weekly. "I wanted you to hear the news direct from me, obviously we’re over the moon and very excited but please respect our privacy at this precious time. Yours always, Adele xx."

Adele confirmed her marriage in March of 2017, but only when spotted out with a ring. But supposedly there were signs that something was amiss. For one, Us Weekly noted that she signed over her home in Los Angeles to Simon. It's obvious that she felt strongly about him, as she said he was different from the other guys she used to date.

"It’s the most serious relationship I’ve ever been in; we’ve got a child together and we live together," she said in 2016 to Vanity Fair, per Us Weekly. "After releasing my first album [19], all the other people I ever was with were so insecure about themselves — they couldn’t handle it at all."

But hopefully, the two of them are handling co-parenting well. A split is never easy. And based on the situation the world's facing right now, a bunch of new challenges have bubbled up for individuals who co-parent. You need to have the faith that they're doing everything right during this crisis.

And that may be one of the many reasons why Adele chose to dedicate her birthday to the people working to make a difference. It's a scary place out there right now, but we're all doing what we can. And for Adele, crediting those hard workers is a really nice gesture.
