Many people think of police officers in the same intimidating, mean-spirited stereotype that's been around for decades. Of course, that's a pretty silly and narrow-minded perspective. Thankfully, plenty of the boys in blue have found ways to connect with the citizens of their towns and prove just how approachable, friendly, and essential they are when it comes to keeping their residents safe.
Officers like Jordan Burke and his buddies on the force, who joined in with a young group of kids playing soccer rather than force them to clear the field, show just how much they care about the community instead of strictly adhering to the misguided complaint calls they received. The same goes for Officer Tommy Norman of Little Rock, AR, who spends every day, on or off duty, bringing smiles to his fellow citizens.
The men and women of California Highway Patrol Southern Division not only put a smile on young Alfonso Hoffman's face, but they brought more than a few happy tears to his eyes, too. The 12-year-old is currently battling leukemia, but that hasn't stopped his dreams of becoming a K-9 officer when he grows up. His uncle, Michael Garcia, asked his fellow deputies of CHP if they'd be able to help the little guy out by providing one amazing day.
Judging from Hoffman's reaction, they more than succeeded! He was not only sworn in and given an official sheriff's vest, but they also allowed him to spend time with their four-legged officers.
Take a look below to see his emotional gratitude at the end of the day.
