William is a name that has been bestowed upon many notable men. There was William Shakespeare, William Wallace, and in more modern times, Prince William. There are also a lot of note-worthy Emmas out there as well—Emma Thompson, Emma Watson, Eminem.
Due to the remarkability of the people who don these charming names, their popularity has risen and America has responded—we are naming a lot of our babies William and Emma. In fact, according to Social Security, in at least a dozen states these two names are the most popular names for boys and girls.
But this is not the case for every state.
Others prefer the ring of names that are famously associated with a former Golden Girl, two biblical figures, and one fine spider. Classic Hollywood names are enjoying a revival in some states as well—and thankfully—only 328 babies in all of the 50 states were burdened with the silly name "Abcde" (A-B-C-D-E) this year.
