You've probably been compared to someone in your family before. Maybe you have your mother's eyes and your father's nose, or maybe you and your siblings all share the same curl to your hair.
Of course, it's most easily seen in the relatives who are still living, but what about all the people who came before you? Have you ever wondered if you looked like your ancestors from many generations ago?
It's always interesting to look back and see how, even in ancient times, people weren't really so different from us, and they wore clothes and played games just like we do today. But sometimes, when we look into our own pasts, we see that the people of history are way more like us than we might have realized!
People on the internet have been sharing photos of their families, and sometimes of themselves, showing that all throughout history, our genetics have a funny way of repeating themselves.
The photos below show people generations apart. Sometimes, it's just one generation, and other times, it's many, but the resemblances are amazing.
Check them out below, and if you have some spitting images in your family, let us know!
[H/T: Bright Side]
People have posted photos of ancestors and descendants in their families all over the internet, and others have marveled at the similarities in the faces.
The photo on the left was taken in 1980. The one on the right is her daughter in 2014. Pretty amazing!
Of course, things get more amazing when you see how resemblances can span multiple generations.
The photo on the left shows the grandmother of the young woman on the right at the age of 10. At 24, her granddaughter is still a spitting image!
And it doesn't even have to be a direct descendant, either. These photos show a great-grandaunt and great-grandniece.
Dressed up or dressed down, this grandfather and grandson look almost exactly alike. They even appear to part their hair the same way!
And this great-grandfather passed down his appearance to his great-grandson, but it looks like their taste in mustaches has diverged.
Some period-costuming and a photo filter, and these could be the same little boy. But they're actually generations apart!
These two young men (and Macaulay Culkin look-alikes) lived 120 years apart.
And these two women are four generations apart.
And in one of the most impressive now-and-then comparisons, John Brownlow, born in 1953, still bears a resemblance to his ancestor, also named John Brownlow, seen here in a portrait from 1740.
Of course, you don't have to go nearly that far back to see some impressive look-alikes.
This mother and daughter's first grade portraits are almost identical, except for some differences in bang-styling.
And in some, like this mother-daughter pair, the resemblances start early.
As well as in this one! This mom and daughter look like twins at 18 months old.
And this mom was not incorrect when she referred to her daughter as her "mini me."
Sometimes, it's not just the face, but what you do with it that looks like your family. This mother and daughter have the exact same smile!
And so do they!
Of course, while some people look alike right away and then change, others grow into looking like their family members.
This father and son, both photographed at age 20, are spitting images.
Of course, family resemblances don't just stick to one gender. This father and daughter look so alike, even down to their hairstyles!
As do this mother and son.
And sometimes, the family resemblance just keeps going, as shown in these portraits of three generations.
