Anna Kournikova and Enrique Iglesias brought a little cheer to this otherwise unruly year when they announced that their third child, Mary, had been born on January 30. The notoriously private couple doesn't offer a lot of family updates or photos of their children, but every so often, the rest of us get a glimpse into their lives with their kids and guys, it looks really sweet.
Anna recently posted a photo of Mary wearing her very own tennis ensemble, which fans immediately loved. Anna, of course, is a former world champion tennis player. She retired in 2007, but it's likely the sport still holds a special place in her heart.
The last time Anna shared a photo of Mary was in April, when the baby was basically a little squish of a thing. It seems that Mary is growing well, and she'll probably be chasing her older siblings, twins Nicholas and Lucy, in no time.
Mary clearly favors both of her parents, and a lot of people commented on the post that she looks like "Enrique with blue eyes." You can definitely see it!
In March, Enrique opened up about how the transition from two kids to three has gone for the family.
He told People that so far, everything has gone "very smoothly," and that the twins are especially excited about their baby sister. "They actually love it. There's a two-year difference, so I was a little scared. I was like, 'How are they going to react?' And I have two dogs so my house is chaotic. When we first came home with Masha, I was like, 'Oh, how is everybody going to react?'"
In Russian, Masha is a diminutive of the name Maria, and it's commonly used as a pet name for a girl or woman who is named Marie or Maria. Diminutives are often used in the Russian language as a nickname or pet name for a family member or close friend. Since Anna is Russian, it makes sense that the children all have their own diminutives.
Enrique and Anna have been together for over 20 years, which is a feat that in and of itself is pretty remarkable. They've also been especially skilled at shielding their relationship from public scrutiny — even to the point that fans have wondered if the pair were still together.
They were introduced when Anna starred in Enrique's music video for his song "Escape." As the story goes, they were immediately attracted to each other and were dating soon after the video's release. They were even photographed frequently at the beginning of their relationship.
In 2004, people speculated that the pair were engaged after Anna was spotted wearing a massive pink diamond on her ring finger while playing at the World Team Tennis Match. She later swapped the ring out for a simple band, but the rumors were already out there.
Two years later, no one knew if the couple were engaged or even married, but Anna was photographed wearing a different band on the same ring finger, which kicked everything into overdrive. At times, the couple let their frustration with the media interest in their relationship show. Enrique even told one outlet that they had been married, but were now divorced — a joke that was later refuted by his rep.
In 2011, Anna told Women's Health that she planned to have children. "I absolutely want to have children, whether I have my own or adopt. I love taking care of people."
The following year, Enrique told Parade that getting married wasn't that important to their relationship. "Maybe it's because I come from divorced parents, but I don't think you love somebody more because of a piece of paper."
In 2014, Enrique surprised everyone by claiming that he and Anna had gotten divorced … again. "I got a divorce three days ago and I wanted to give you guys the exclusive. I'm serious. No, seriously. Don't laugh." Obviously, the two were still together, and they became parents in 2017 when their twins were born.
Enrique has mulled taking his entire family on tour in the future, and he thinks that their family can make the lifestyle work. "A lot of people say, 'With young kids, they need stability.' I think we are their stability. If we're near them, they'll feel safe and protected regardless of the roller coaster. They're next to us."
