Ashley Graham is still pregnant with twins. That's right! The model has made it past the 40-week mark, which is essentially unheard of when it comes to carrying twins. But still, that doesn't mean it isn't completely healthy, safe, and normal.
Ashley has been dropping pictures on Instagram, showing off her incredible belly. The photos definitely remind us just how amazing pregnant bodies are. And yes, there are definitely two full-term babies in there.
Ashley is certainly full of life at the moment. She showed off her belly on Instagram, writing, "made it full term today (40 weeks!). due dates are just a suggestion, babies will always come on their birthday."
Ashley clearly has a care provider who is supportive of her allowing her babies to come on their own time. While many practitioners will opt to deliver twin babies early, that's not always necessary. But it's a bit mind-blowing that we almost never see twin babies make it to full-term because dated hospital practices, rather than evidence-based care, can often dictate how people give birth.
On Thursday, Ashley posted another image of her giant belly on Instagram. She captioned the photo simply, "extended stay." Even though the babies are only a few days past their due date, when you're that pregnant, every can minute start to feel like an hour because discomfort really starts to set in.
Ashley is likely more than ready to welcome her babies, but it's truly an amazing thing that she's allowing her twins to come when they are good and ready. Many twin babies need a lot of extra support when they arrive early, so as long as they are doing well on the inside, the longer they can stay in, the better.
The model sharing her twin pregnancy so publicly will likely help other people carrying twins to seek supportive OB or midwife care, too. It's a great reminder that twins don't always need to arrive via cesarean birth, that twins can go full-term, and that medical interventions aren't always necessary, even when birthing multiples.
