In 1961, Tammy Makram was discovered in a cardboard box left abandoned outside a Minneapolis hospital. Doctors said that if she hadn't been found, she would have died within minutes.
At the time, the story made headlines all over the world. Tammy was found by the mother of Bobbi Fischbein, who had given birth at that very same hospital.
“She heard the baby crying and she just kept walking up and down, back and forth through the rows of cars until she found it,” Bobbi said. "My mom was absolutely screaming."
Tammy remained in the hospital before being adopted into a loving home. For years, she wondered who her birth family was. After much research, Tammy found nine siblings: four from her birth mother, and five from her birth father.
But a missing piece of the puzzle remained.
WCCO did a segment on Tammy's reunion with her biological sister. Bobbi happened to be watching the news that day.
“All of a sudden it hit me — ‘Oh my god, it’s the baby my parents found,'” Bobbi said.
The Fischbeins always wondered what happened to the baby girl. Bobbi finally reunited with her 50 years later, and it was all tears.
“Had I not been found very quickly, my life would have been very different, or maybe not at all,” Tammy said with gratitude.
