There can be such a special relationship formed between grandparents and their grandchildren, especially when they’re babies and you’re given that meaningful time to really connect.
This clip from Inside Edition captures a sweet moment of communication between 8-week-old Aria and her grandmother. Her grandma is trying to teach little Aria use sign language because she is deaf, as is her mother.
The video showcases Aria smiling exceptionally big, giggling away, and most importantly, intently watching everything her grandmother communicates to her through sign language.
So, what is it that Aria’s grandma is trying so hard to communicate to her ridiculously cute granddaughter? She wants her to know how to say grandma in sign language, of course. Aria hasn’t signed back just yet, but she is still super little and has nothing but time to learn everything she needs to communicate with her loved ones through sign language.
According to March of Dimes, up to 3 in 1,000 babies are born with some kind of hearing loss in the United States every year.
Sign language can be a useful tool for babies who are not hard of hearing as well, as it helps them to be able to communicate with their parents before they are able to speak. Some babies can begin to pick up on sign language as early as 6 months old.
Since this video was recorded, Aria and her grandmother haven’t seen each other, but they will hopefully reunite soon to further work on their sign language and communication skills.
