Border Collie Acts As Mom To Abandoned Baby Lamb

In the animal kingdom, it is not unlikely for a mom to abandon a new baby, or lack the skills to take care of one. Although it is a sad fact, it happens quite often. For animals that live at wildlife parks, zoos, and farms, heartbreaking circumstances like these can be turned around when the abandoned babies are given surrogate mothers, and a little extra help from humans, so that they can grow to be strong, healthy adult animals.

While zoos and wildlife centers will match up animals with others that are natural carers for their own species, like the zoo who let one loving orangutan take care of an orphaned tiger, this story is extra-touching because the surrogate mother took it upon her self to make sure that this baby animal in need of a mom was properly taken care of.

Living on a farm, Tammy the border collie was already used to being around different animals all day. When her owner, Cathy Fluery, went to check on a newborn baby lamb, Stormy, during her first night in the farm, she saw that the mother had not only decided not to take care of her, but that Stormy had also been injured.

Removing Stormy from the rest of the sheep was the only way to make sure she didn't die, but it wasn't until Tammy stepped in as "Mom" to Stormy that this farmer figured out how they would raise her.

The two have been inseparable ever since, and the farmer plans to keep the two together.
