Baby Born Dead Is Deemed A Thanksgiving Miracle

In 2012, a Chicago couple made headlines when their baby was feared dead inside of the mother's womb. Like Kate Ogg's baby who only came alive when she touched him, doctors did not think this child was alive until a magical moment shocked doctors and the boy's parents.

In 2012, the baby was not alive when Ignacio and Jocelyn arrived via ambulance to Mt. Sinai Hospital. Jocelyn was suffering through severe complications and needed immediate medical care.

Doctors did an ultrasound. "I had to sort of be very honest with her and say: we don't have a heartbeat," said Dr. Kimberly Sampson. Another doctor came in and confirmed they couldn't find the heartbeat. Ignacio and Jocelyn were terrified, and they began to break down. The medical team quickly turned their attention on saving the bleeding mother. The placenta had blocked her cervix, which is a condition called placenta previa. Doctors were just beginning to perform surgery to remove the fetus — and that's when a miracle happened. Dr. Sampson heard the baby gasp.

"It's a miracle — you can't say anything other than that," said Dr. Sampson.
