22 Hours After The Nepal Earthquake, They Heard Whimpering From The Rubble

The magnitude-7.8 earthquake that devastated Nepal in April 2015 will forever be remembered as a day where thousands of lives were taken and thousands more changed forever. Families have been torn apart, homes and ancient structures have crumbled to the ground, and many are left wondering if they'll ever see a day when they'll lead normal lives again. But amidst all the tragedy and loss, a miracle has taken place in the form of 4-month-old Sonit Awal. The tiny baby was trapped under the rubble and feared dead, but then, everything changed.

We've seen the devastating effects of earthquakes far too many times. The 2011 disaster in Japan killed thousands of people, triggered a tsunami and a nuclear meltdown, and left multiple towns completely abandoned. The quake in Nepal triggered multiple aftershocks that killed and displaced more and more people after the initial tremor, and its residents live in constant sorrow and fear of what will happen next. Some companies, such as Facebook, are assisting in aid efforts by offering to match individual donations, but it will still be a long time before any sense of normalcy is restored. Thankfully, little Sonit Awal and his father have something to celebrate despite all the tragedy…and they've given hope to every around them as well.

For this baby and his father, this tragic story has a silver lining. His rescue is nothing short of a miracle, and we can only hope that more stories like his will bring hope to those who are suffering so much. Please consider donating to a reputable charity to help those affected by this disaster. Every penny helps make it more likely that we'll see more success stories like Sonit Awal's.

Please SHARE this story with your friends and encourage them to donate so more families in Nepal can have a reason to smile!
