Babysitters, as a general rule, tend to be lovely people who adore children.
Of course, no babysitter comes with a guarantee, so leaving your child at home with one can be a nerve-wracking process. You worry about how your little one will behave, you worry about the babysitter changing up the routine, and you worry you’ll come home to a sugar high that rivals this gentleman’s.
But even with a nightmare sitter, you usually don’t have to worry about coming home to the mysterious absence of all of your worldly possessions. Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened to one Louisiana mom after she left her kids with a babysitter and headed to work.
Joanie Knight, of Bogalusa, LA, came home from work and discovered that her babysitter and the babysitter’s daughter, both family friends, had sold off just about everything in her house over the course of one day.
The babysitter, Estelle Ard, 64, took the kids to the park for the afternoon. Meanwhile, her 27-year-old daughter Cathy Knight (no relation) called into a local radio station called the Swap Shop to advertise an "Everything Must Go"-style sale at "her" home.
Drawn by the incredible deals broadcast on the radio, local bargain-hunters stormed the house. In just a few hours, they snapped up Joanie’s washer-dryer set, TV, and even the family’s refrigerator, buying, “brand new appliances for, like, forty and fifty bucks,” according to the irate homeowner.
Now, she’s afraid that her family will never feel secure again, saying, “I’m angry, I’m upset. I’m scared. I don’t know if she has friends that are gonna try to come after me because I went to the police.”
