Barbara Bush Talks ‘Silver Lining’ In ‘Unusual Year’ Before Revealing She’s Given Birth

Former first daughter Barbara Bush has become a mom!

The 39-year-old twin of Jenna Bush Hager, daughters of former President George W. Bush, welcomed her first child with husband Craig Coyne. The news was announced by the proud new grandparents.

"With full hearts, Laura and I are delighted to announce the birth of our new granddaughter," they shared in a statement, per People magazine. Cora Georgia Coyne was born in Maine.

"Cora is healthy and adorable, and we are proud and grateful."

Shortly before welcoming her new arrival, Barbara sat down with Jenna and cousins Lauren Bush Lauren and Wendy Wear Stapleton to talk about the annual George H.W. Bush Points of Light Awards celebration, which they serve as cochairs of. At the time, Barbara opened up about what it's like living with her parents at the Bush ranch in Texas, a decision the couple made early in the pandemic.

"We thought it would be for a handful of weeks — we didn't anticipate that it would be for the majority of a year," Barbara said.

"But it's time that we never otherwise would've had, of course. There's something really lovely about the simplicity of being with someone every day, rather than when we normally are with our family where it's around the holidays or it's for this very condensed amount of time."

"The downtime of just being together has been really beautiful," she continued.

"I know it's something that I'll always remember and likely will never have again. That's been a real bonus during what has been an unusual and complicated year."

Though she welcomed baby Cora in Maine, Barbara and Craig plan to move to New York City, where they can also be close to Jenna and her family.

That won't be the only sentimental element of growing up as a Bush and Coyne. Cora's name even has a nod to her family.

"She likes the alliteration, the Cora Coyne, so I know she was tossing around C names and that was kind of in the lead in late August, so I'm glad she did that," cousin Wendy Stapleton said.

"Then she's got the Georgia which is for her dad and her grandfather."

Wendy then revealed that Barbara welcomed her baby girl way earlier than expected.

"She was six weeks early, otherwise she would have been here full of baby," she said, referencing the Points of Light Annual Awards Gala.
