Mom Raises Quadruplets On Her Own Despite Negative Backlash Against Her

Sometimes life throws us curveballs that prove to be a true blessing in the end, but the woman in the following story had a difficult time coming to terms with some shocking news…and it's easy to understand why!

While there are plenty of bizarre stories out there about people who get pregnant unintentionally or go months before they realize they're having a baby, for so many others, it can be just the opposite. While some wannabe parents struggle with the adoption process, others spend all of their time and money trying to get pregnant through risky treatments like in vitro fertilization. Then there's this couple, who were surprised by both!

Like so many women, Beth Goodman wanted to become a mother more than anything. Unfortunately, being divorced, single and not having a steady income made motherhood seem pretty far-fetched. With her 40th birthday in sight, Goodman knew her biological clock was ticking, so she decided she wanted to do it on her own and raise a baby without a father. She saved up enough money for IVF treatment and 6 months of maternity leave from her job as an independent florist, but she was never prepared for what came next.

On November 11, 2003, the single mother gave birth to not one baby, but quadruplets, sparking a great debate nationwide. Nearly 10 years later, Goodman sat down with Oprah to discuss how she and her four kids are doing.
