Becoming a grandparent is something many dream of. A grandparent is an important figure in a child’s life who gets to be a role model without all the responsibilities and restrictions of parenthood. A grandparent can let a grandchild have ice cream for breakfast and then drop them off at home for the parents to deal with the sugar rush.
Bill Gates and Melinda French Gates recently became grandparents for the first time. Their daughter Jennifer Gates and her husband, Nayel Nassar, had a beautiful baby girl. Bill and Melinda are over the moon with the newest member of their family and took to Instagram to share all about it.
Bill first posted a picture of him holding his granddaughter, whose name is still unknown at this time, while sitting on a couch. She appears to be attempting to grab his finger.
“I can’t wait to watch you discover the world,” wrote the proud new grandpa. Bill also posted a video about what being a grandfather meant to him.
Melinda also took to the ‘gram to share her grandma love. She posted a picture of her cuddling her granddaughter on her chest.
“There is nothing quite like holding your first grandchild It seems like just yesterday I was holding Jenn at this age. Now she has a baby of her own—and I am bursting with pride watching her and Nayel step into their new role as parents,” she gushed.

Bill and Melinda divorced in 2021 after 27 years of marriage. The couple share three adult children: Jennifer, Rory, and Phoebe. They continue to have an amicable relationship as they run the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation together and continue to be an active presence in their shared family’s lives.
